Filming permits

Before filming in the Balearic Islands, it is essential to know the procedures and permits required for the development of the production. This is why the Illes Balears Film Commission provides key information to prepare the shoot with full guarantees.

Coasts

To carry out a shoot in the public maritime-terrestrial domain, it will be necessary to obtain the corresponding authorisation from the Directorate General for Coasts and the Coastline. This body will also request the relevant reports if the space is protected by more than one administration.

Ports and lighthouses

To film in the ports and lighthouses of the archipelago, it should be noted that not all of them are managed by the same body. While the Balearic Islands Port Authority is responsible for lighthouses and the main ports of general interest, Ports IB manages the ports owned by the regional government.

Public roads

In the event that traffic is obstructed or becomes hazardous, filming on interurban roads and thoroughfares may only be carried out with the appropriate authorization issued by the Directorate General of Traffic.

Protected natural areas

Areas of environmental importance include both protected natural areas and Natura 2000 network. Therefore, the application will differ depending on the locations and requirements for each shoot.

Airports and aerodromes

The entity that manages the four airports in the Balearic Islands is Aena. Therefore, interested parties should contact the company's managers to start the application process and, depending on the nature of the production, the airport will inform the production company of the requirements and documentation needed.

Filming with animals

For any filming or photo shoot involving animals, a permit from the Regional Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and the Environment is required to ensure their welfare. However, there are different procedures, depending on the types of animals in question.

Filming with weapons and pyrotechnics

The use of weapons in public shows, including film shoots, must be authorised by the Government Delegation in the Balearic Islands. Similarly, a permit must be requested for the use of pyrotechnic devices in the course of an audiovisual production.

Surveillance measures on public roads

If the production requires private security measures, it is essential to obtain a permit before carrying out certain activities. If necessary, the interested party must submit the application to the Government Delegation in the Balearic Islands.
